Born in Naples. Piano studies at the Conservatory of Naples with Vincenzo Vitale. Diplomas in piano and composition with Enzo Calace and Bruno Bettinelli in Milan.

Performances as soloist and chamber musician in the most important concert halls and at the most important festivals in Europe, America, Australia, Japan and China. Piano duo for 50 years with Antonio Ballista and member of the "Trio di Milano" for 40 years.

Projects with renowned artists like Salvatore Accardo, Uto Ughi, Lynn Harrell, Itzhak Perlman, Victoria Mullova and Pierre Amoyal. Artistic director of the Giovine Orchestra Genovese, the Campus Internazionale di Musica in Latina. Between 1999 and 2001 head of the music section of the Biennale in Venice.

In particular, he has devoted himself also to contemporary music. Joint projects, among others, with Pierre Boulez, Luciano Berio, Karl-Heinz Stockhausen, György Ligeti, Bruno Maderna, Luigi Nono and Sylvano Bussotti. Numerous first time performances.

Under the direction of Abbado, Muti, Chailly, Sawallisch, Berio, Boulez he played with orchestras such as the La Scala Philharmonic Orchestra, Santa Cecilia in Rome, the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, the New York Philharmonie, the Philadelphia Orchestra and the French National Orchestra.

He has been professor of piano for 24 years at the Milan Conservatory, and for 11 years he hold a Meisterklasse of piano and Modern Chamber music at the Bern Musikhochschule.

Often invited as juror in many major piano and chamber music competitions (Bolzano,Santander,London, Maryland, Graz, Vienna, Zurich, Leipzig, Moscow, etc.)

Many records and CDs, for instance with Johann Sebastian Bach's "Goldberg Variationen", the complete works for piano by Alfredo Casella (Stradivarius). He is currently producing Claude Debussy's complete works for piano. As a writer he published in 1997 the "Vademacum per il pianista da camera" Passigli Editor.
