1. Preliminary Selection
The applicant must record his or her performance of both (1) and (2) on a CD, MD or DAT. The applicant's name, the full titles, and the date and place of recording must be clearly printed on the recording medium.

2. Screening Auditions
The participant shall select one piece from each of the groups (1) and (2) below, and perform the two pieces:

3. Elimination Round
The contestant shall select one piece from the list below and perform all the movements of the piece.

- The cadenzas for the pieces will be specified and notified to those who have passed the Preliminary Selection.
4. Semifinal Round
The contestant shall select one piece from each of the groups A and B below.
After the Elimination Round, the Chairperson of the Managing Committee will select one of those two pieces, and the contestant will perform all the movements of this piece.

Notes about the performance
- All performances shall be performed from memory.
- All performances shall be open to the public.
- In the selection process, performances may be shortened in some part(s) in the interest of time.
Notes about changing the pieces
- If an audition participant wishes to change his or her program for the Screening Auditions, he or she must give prior notice to the Secretariat in writing. (Fax or e-mail is acceptable.)
- If a contestant wishes to change his or her program for the Elimination and/or Semifinal Rounds, he or she must give notice to the Secretariat in writing no later than Monday, March 15, 2010. (Fax or e-mail is acceptable.)
Piano Section - The Repertoire
1. Preliminary Selection
The applicant must record at least 15 minutes of his or her performance of solo piece(s) of his or her choice on a CD, MD or DAT.
The applicant's name, the full title(s), opus number(s), and the date and place the recording was made must be clearly printed on the recording medium.
- Solo pieces must NOT be concertos.
- The recording must be made on or after September 30, 2008
2. Screening Auditions
The participant shall perform the first movement of a concerto of his or her choice with piano accompaniment.
- Participants must provide their own accompanists.
3. Elimination Round
The contestant shall perform a program which consists of any solo pieces selected freely by the contestant, with a total performance duration that exceeds 30 minutes but does not exceed 35 minutes.
However, the program must include at least one piece from the works of the composers listed below.
- J.S. Bach
- Haydn
- Mozart
- Beethoven
- Schubert
- Mendelssohn
- Chopin
- Schumann
- Brahms

- There is no restriction on the number of pieces and the duration of each piece.
- Pieces that include special performing techniques such as playing inside the piano, prepared piano, tone clusters must not be selected.
4. Semifinal Round
The contestant shall select one piece from the list below and perform all the movements.
